Hello!

We have a telephone system ( Panasonic KX-TDA) which supports only 32-Bit Operating Systems. As we are planning to use a 64-Bit Server , we would like to virtualise a 32-Bit system under this server and use the 32-Bit drivers for the telephone system there.

Planned operation system:

64-Bit Server 2003 with unknow USB device ( driversupport only for 32-bit)

vmware with 32-Bit OS (eg. XP) with installed drivers for KX-TDA


Our Question is: Do we have to install drivers for the USB device on the 64-Bit System too or just in the virtual machine and leave the usb device as unknown device on the 64-Bit machine?

Hi!

It seems we already talked with you about and I answered your questions. In any case, I just want to duplicate the answer here. It may be useful for another customers.

So, your device is plugged to 64bit Server 2003. But there are no device drivers. It means that device is not displayed in the list of USB devices and cannot be shared in standard way.

Solution:

USB over Network Server allows to share USB devices automatically on the device's plug. In this case device driver is not required.

To enable it, on the Settings menu, click Preferences. Then go to Auto-Sharing tab and enable "Enable auto-sharing of USB devices" option.

There is a possibility to specify USB devices which should not be shared automatically.
